In previous issues, Salmonella control was already mentioned under the perspective of Public Health. This new issue of EGGS Program Online will mention about Salmonella control with regard to the economical disease for the birds, Fowl Typhoid and Pullorum Disease. For decades, these old diseases have been extensively studied and control plans implemented in many countries. We deeply thank P.A. Barrow and O.C. Freitas Neto for allowing us to use their very interesting review on our current knowledge on these diseases which are still so important for the world poultry industry.

It is well acknowledged that Newcastle Disease is one of the most devastating diseases for the poultry sector. It causes high mortality, severe egg drops, performance losses due to post-vaccination reactions, and heavy restrictions to international trade of poultry products. 

Since the early days of the poultry industry, producers want to prevent losses attributable to this disease using vaccines. This article attempts to briefly review the development of ND vaccines from the first attempts some 80 years ago up to the most recent introduction of molecular techniques-based vaccines.
