During early October, the French company, Coopex-Montbéliarde, exported 165 pregnant heifers by air to Garoua in the Northern part of Cameroon. This acquisition is part of the Livestock Development Project (Prodel) financed by the World Bank. The heifers left Garoua by road to reach the governmental zootechnical station where 3 specially built stables awaited them. There, they will acclimatize in quarantine for several weeks. Ceva Santé Animale, in close collaboration with the Coopex-Montbéliarde company, supports this project by organizing training sessions for future stakeholders (shepherds, farmers, veterinarians, inseminators), and through the supply of veterinary drugs intended for prophylaxis (Vectoclor®, Veridium®, Okzan®, Coglavax®) or for reproduction management (PRID® Delta, Cystoreline®, Enzaprost® T). Once the acclimatization period is over, the 165 heifers will be distributed to different farms selected by the Prodel. Many experiments have already demonstrated the adaptability of these animals on the African continent as the first importation of Montbéliarde cows dates back to 1929! Cameroon is targeting an increase in its milk production. A country which has a deficit of 12,000 t / year and where the import of milk and derived products costs more than 30 million euros per year, according to official figures. Ceva once again proves its commitment to increasing food production in sub-Saharan African countries. Animal health secures this project, reproduction makes it sustainable!

Rains are now falling everywhere in Intertropical Africa. But beware, during this period different factors can trigger the development of dermatophilosis : wet wether, animals grazing in muddy pasture, cutaneous lesions, etc... Dermatophilosis is a contagious skin disease widely spread in Africa and due to the bacteria Dermatophilus congolensis . This disease leads to important losses for the farmers with bad quality of skin or leather, less milk production, loss of weight or less value of the animal. Due to its mode of action and its tissular penetration, spiramycin has shown its efficiency to treat this disease. Take a look at these photos from Cameroon which shows the efficiency of SPIROVET® in the treatment of dermatophylosis in a cow!

Abena: Ceva agent, Cameroon, The Minister for Agriculture: Ms Thoko Didiza, Dr Reza Bentaleb: Poultry Manager Intertropical Africa Dr Omer Akesse: Ceva agent in RCI, The French Minister for Agriculture: Mr Didier Guillaume, Mr Mathieu Patriat: Operations Manager, West and Central Africa This week the Ceva Intertropical Africa team took part in West Africa's most important event: the International Exhibition of Agriculture and Animal Resources, in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. Thanks to the event's broad reach, we were able to meet most of the key accounts and local distributors. Our communication focused on hatchery vaccination, genetic improvement and the fight against trypanosomiasis. Making the most of record attendance, we revealed the results of a massive survey conducted in Côte d’Ivoire this year with over 1,000 farmers who have vaccinated their chicks in the hatchery with Ceva products: 97% of them said they were satisfied with their choice! Enough to really help speed up the spread of this practice. Alongside the fair, a group of about twenty veterinarians and artificial insemination technicians took part in a ReprodAction awareness-raising session, organised in collaboration with our partner, IMV technologies. With its 22 local representatives, the Intertropical Africa team is a longstanding and recognised presence. It was therefore quite natural that their stand should welcome, in turn, the French Agriculture Minister (Didier Guillaume), as well as the South African and of course the Côte d'Ivoire Ministers of Agriculture.

21th February 2019, Libourne - A white paper published by the World Economic Forum in January 2019, highlights the fact that 151 million children under the age of five are stunted in size and that the “vast majority of undernourished people lack sufficient quantities of the proteins and micronutrients readily available in nutrient-dense animal-sourced foods - meat, milk/dairy, fish and eggs - to lead healthy and productive lives.”

The 2018 edition of the Clermond-Ferrand Livestock Summit was a great opportunity to meet people from the other side of the globe. From sub-Saharan Africa, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Cameroon and Senegal were represented. During the summit, Ceva Africa and French partner companies (IMV, Coopex and Reprotech) signed a letter of agreement with the National Center for Artificial Insemination of Mali. The objective is to implement a genetic improvement program based on artificial insemination. The program seeks to increase milk and beef production in Mali and thus to better feed the Malian population. Ceva will contribute to this program by providing expertise on bovine reproduction, including optimal hormonal protocol selection for heat induction and synchronization. From left to right: Jean-Paul Brun (Coopex), Mathieu Patriat (Ceva), Beydi Dembele (CNIA), Marjorie Bouchier (Ceva), Ibrahima Bathily (CNIA), Diakaridia Trahore (CNIA), Guy Charbonnier (Reprotech), Idrissa Sidibe (President of the Farmers National Federation of Mali), Maxime Sergent (IMV) Ceva also accompanied the Ugandan delegates. Genetic improvement was once again the topic of choice since the Ugandan government recently launched a national breeding program in partnership with Ceva. The State Minister for Animal Industry, Hon. Joy Kabatsi, recognised Ceva as a longterm, faithful and trusted partner. Ceva is also involved in a national program against resistant ticks through use of its external parasiticide, VECTOCLOR®. From left to right: Mathieu Patriat (Ceva), Hon. Joy Kabatsi (Ugandan State Minister of Animal Industry), Marjorie Bouchier (Ceva), Dr. Charles Lagu (Director of the NAGRC&DB), Elly Bureju (Minister’s personal assistant) Through its numerous public and private partnerships, Ceva endeavours to disseminate its expertise in cattle breeding in the African continent for the benefit of farmers and local populations. Ceva fervently adheres to its doctrine: "Together, beyond animal health".
